When will I need to renew my certification?
CVPs must submit their application for renewal three years after the January 1st that immediately follows earning the designation. For instance, CVPs who earned the designation in July 2022 are required to submit a new application for renewal by January 1, 2026. Points for this renewal would be accumulated during calendar years 2023, 2024, and 2025.
For candidates who serve on official active military duty, the three-year renewal requirement will be extended, with no penalty, at the candidate’s request. When the Certification Board receives such a request, it will notify the candidate of the new, adjusted deadline.

Do I need to renew my CVP if I’m retired?
No, but please inform us at certification@iavm.org that you have retired. The Certification Board has approved a “CVP retired” status. A CVP, upon retirement from the industry, is certified for life.
Do I need to renew my CVP if I have earned by CVE as well?
No, as long as you maintain your CVE through regular CVE renewals, your CVP will automatically be renewed as well. If you receive a CVP renewal notice in error, please notify us at certification@iavm.org.
Why do I have to renew my CVP?
Certified Venue Professionals must renew every three years in order to maintain their certification. The Certification Board has established this requirement under the rationale that maintaining competency in the field of public assembly venue management requires continuing professional development through activities such as continuing education programs, teaching and program planning, writing and publishing and community service. Renewal demonstrates your continued dedication to stay up-to-date with the changing Public Assembly Venue Management profession, and it is an important indicator that shows your dedication to your profession and industry by continuing your education and maintaining your certification. In addition, renewal is a process necessary to maintain the standards of the Certification program. The renewal requirement, combined with the rigorous selection process the Certification Board has developed for certification, will ensure that your CVP designation continues to be an acknowledged mark of your professional status among public assembly venue professionals.
How much is renewal?
The renewal fee is US $150 for members and $200 for non-members (those not holding membership in IAVM at the time of their renewal).
CVPs who fail to renew by the January 1st deadline may still submit the paperwork between January 2nd through March 31st, but will need to pay an additional $100 late fee.
How can I pay the renewal fee?
To pay by credit card, log into your IAVM dashboard, click on CVP/CVE on the left panel, then click on Apply For New or Renewal CVP/CVE in the upper right of the screen. Follow the steps to submit your renewal application and complete the credit card transaction. Email certification@iavm.org for assistance.
To pay by check, mail your renewal check to:

What categories are considered for renewal points?
Categories for renewal include:
- Continuing Education (15 pt maximum)
- Teaching/Presenting/Mentoring (10 pt maximum)
- Publication of Written Works (5 pt maximum)
- Professional and Community Activities (10 pt maximum)
Your grand total of points must add up to a minimum of 18 points
Due to maximum point limits in each category, you will need to have points in at least two categories.
How can I make the renewal process easier?
Don’t wait until your renewal application is due, start tracking your activities and continue to record them throughout the three years. You can use a renewal application to do this, or create your own tracking document. Also keep documentation of all the activities you participate in, such as a conference registration, to submit along with your application.
What items will I need to submit for my renewal?
You will need to submit a completed and signed CVP renewal application, supporting documentation for all activities listed on your application, and pay the renewal fee.
Examples of supporting documentation include:
- registration confirmation emails
- photos of your conference badges
- course syllabi with your name on it
- a link or screenshot from a university website connecting you to a course
- copies of emails about board or committee meetings (welcoming you to the board, informing you of meeting dates, sending out agendas, etc)
- a link or screenshot from an organization website listing you as a board or committee member
