International Association of Assembly Managers
Names Shura Lindgren-Garnett Chairman of the Board of Directors

 

Shura Lindgren-Garnett, CFE ascended to the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors for the International Association of Assembly Managers during the 84th Annual Conference & Trade Show in Boston, MA, July 24-28, 2009. She is the 6th female to lead the organization of IAAM.

Lindgren-Garnett is the General Manager of a 154,000 sq. ft. facility, the St. Charles Convention Center located in St. Charles, Missouri. She began her career in public venue management in 1987 with the Amarillo Civic Center as an Event Coordinator. In 1988 she moved to Midland, Texas to assume the position of Director of the Midland Center and was later promoted to direct the combined operations of the Midland Center and the Midland Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Lindgren-Garnett is currently the 1st Vice President of the association. Past capacities for service include Chair of the Convention Centers/Exhibit Halls Committee, Chair of the Board of Education, Chair of the Diversification Committee, Vice President of District VI and board member of the Board of Governors. In addition to her Vice Presidency role she currently serves as the Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee. A recipient of the 2005 IAAM Presidential Citation for her work on the Core Tracks, she earned her CFE in 2000. Her work with the Diversification Committee focused on increasing the number of women and minorities in the field of public venue management.

“Shura’s contributions to the industry of venue management are numerous. As a leader well versed in the various facets of the association she is the ideal candidate for Chairman. We look forward to working with her to promote the opportunities for this association,” said, IAAM President Dexter King, CFE.

Lindgren-Garnett will be the first person named as chair of the association. The former office was President, but in accordance with new bylaws the position is now referred to as Chairman of the Board.
